Like most drone pilots I’ve faced my fair share of Challenges, but when operating a spraying drone they have their own unique set of difficulties. Each jobsite is different some are ideal, and others have a multitude of challenges which will put the most experienced pilot to the test!😬 🚁💧
Trees are everywhere and a few onsite can be tedious, but what if there are hundreds? 🌳🌲 Hilly terrain is relatively easy to deal with because most spray drones have terrain sensors.
But combining the two can be quite challenging because you must dodge trees whilst climbing a hill.🌲⛰
This was the very thing I experienced when spraying Blackberry, where my P30 had to bob up and down over hawthorn trees, which consumes a lot of battery.⛰🔋
The Terrain sensor is amazing! but if the drone isn’t high enough, it doesn’t give the drone enough time to read the terrain and climb over the tree (Learnt that one the hard way!)😬
High voltage powerlines wreak havoc with GPS systems because of the Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI), this makes the automated RTK unusable! So manual flight is required.⚡📡
Spraying near a sheer cliff face is tedious because you can experience the anomaly called “vortex ring”, which is turbulent air wafting over the cliff and blowing onto the drone making it wobble around.😳
I enjoy these challenges because you can really see what the drone is capable of, and this is exactly what they are designed for!
Getting into places that are simply unsuitable for traditional equipment because it’s too difficult or dangerous.🚁
These are just a few of the difficulties I have faced personally, and I think it makes you a better pilot.💪🚁
