Most Spray drones use GPS Guidance to perform automated missions and precise flight paths. This amazing technology allows for less product wastage because you can see exactly where the product has been applied. Also with higher precision the product is applied more evenly.
The DJI AGRAS T40 has some amazing automated functions ranging from semi-auto to fully automatic when it comes to aerial application, but where doe’s the Mapping part come in?
For starters the DJI T40 can map using it’s FPV camera and process up to 5 hectares of data. The map is then used for flight planning small isolated jobs that are to be blanket sprayed/Seeded.
The T40 can also do what is called “Fruit Tree mapping” which is an incredibly powerful tool! Once again at 5 hectares but with a difference. This function was designed to locate and Spot treat fruit trees, but can be used to treat things like Blackberry bushes and patches of Serrated Tussock or St Johns wort.
Instead of blanket spraying the whole area, with Fruit Tree the T40 can be programmed to just spray target areas. It does so in either grid or Rotary pattern which means the drone rotating on its own axis (“Pirouetting”).
Both mapping functions allow for recording obstacles which is an absolute must, when flying a spray drone.
The T40 on it’s own is a very powerful machine indeed, but what if the job is bigger than 5 hectares?
No problem, because with the Mavic 3 I can map up to 30 Hectares per battery!
Using DJI’s “Terra” software I can recreate the fruit tree application, but on a much larger scale. It utilizes the mavic 3’s imagery so I can design 3D Flight paths for the T40 Spray drone to follow.
So if you need something treated or applied by Drone, I’m sure there is a flight mode suited to your job👍.
