Plant Mapping

How we do it

At Oakdale UAV Solutions we fly over your crops, capture multispectral images, process and generate special high resolution “Plant Index maps” such as NDVI, NDRE and NIR. We can program our drone to fly just about any crop type: Single row, Vine, Orchard and also Cereal varieties.

Just about every plant species has reflectance values naturally produced by the sun, and that's exactly what a multispectral camera does. It records reflectance data. This is why plant mapping isn’t limited to agriculture or horticulture. It can be used for hard to access, overgrown land to determine vegetation density in local government and forestry projects.

Helping pinpoint the issue

Unless you are a clairvoyant, it's particularly difficult to get an overall picture of crop health from the ground. Scouting paddocks with a normal drone is better than nothing, but multispectral cameras detect reflectance values. Plant index maps give a more definative picture of crop health.

Plant Health

Using Plant index maps you can visually see the health of your crops, green is healthy, yellow is stressed and red is dead or inanimate. This information is incredibly useful for pinpointing trouble areas plaguing your crop. It could be insects, weeds, disease, soil problems and even drainage issues.

There are so many plant varieties

The End Use

Plant Index maps are an invaluable tool to help mitigate threats and forecast future needs to improve crop yield. Once the data is processed it is pretty much up to you how you utilise it. There are many uses for example:

Crop Scouting : Go straight to the yellow and red spots with a normal drone or walk for visual inspection.

Advice : Hand a copy of the data to a local Agronomist for professional advice.

Soil sampling : Run a soil sampling test program in target areas based on the Index maps.

Prescription maps : Create zone maps to program a GPS guided tractor for spraying or fertiliser application.
