Variable Rate Application

What is Variable Rate Application?

Variable Rate Application (VRA) is a method in Precision farming that is used to create a more uniform yield in cropping. This is done by applying different amounts of products to underperforming spots in the paddock such as Fertilizer,  Spray or even re-sowing!

VRA is Great because?

It can be done any time during the growing season, but the earlier the better! The amount of product required is usually less as it’s only applied to the troubled areas. It also helps improve yields so whats not to like?

Where do we start with VRA?

We start by mapping with our Mavic 3 Multispectral drone and capturing plant index data, which is used to determine the crops health.

Once the images are processed we divide the crops health into three catagories, Green is healthy, Yellow is stressed and Red is dead or inanimate.

Got Issues ?

Once the underperforming areas have been located, a visual inspection is required to determine what the issue is. This is essential for applying the correct product to improve the crops health.
